Managed to catch the sunrise at the village on an extremely cold morning. Temperature at the time was around -28 deg C. Donning full winter gear, my gloved fingers started to hurt within seconds when handling the camera and tripod. Gave up on using any of my slotted filters. Went out, got my shots and rushed back into the house.

Village Sunrise.

The village at sunrise.

Here are more pictures of the scenery in this natural lanscape.

We made a trip out townside for some supplies. The town is 40mins away and the town center is just a single street lined with shops selling provisions, produce, food and daily items. And quite a number of restaurants too, seeing how this is along the transportation route of coal trucks from Heilongjiang into Jilin.

Frozen seafood section at the local supermarket.

We also made a trip out to a much larger neighboring village. With more than 200 households, it is a very large sized village but parts of it still maintains the charm. It is a popular village because it is only 15mins away from Hunchun city.

Frozen stream right by village.

Tobacco fields of Ping-an. Many locals have switched over to farming tobacco as it pays better. Sad but true.

After a night in the city, we move on to a small Korean ethnic village 2 hours away. The village is quite a small one with only 30 households where we spent the next nine days. It is also one of the villages that is situated quite a distance from the main road. It is a 2km hike from the main road before reaching the village finally.

Old Tree by the road home.

Home Sweet Home. Floor is heated by wood fire under the stoves.

Barn used to store corn.

Locals collect and split their own firewood.

Sled used to transport the wood in.

Truck crossing the frozen river as the main road is snowed shut.

We took a path less traveled to Jilin province, close to the borders of Russia and North Korea. It was cold this time of the year with temperatures ranging from -10 to -25 deg C during my stay there. Here are some pictures from the trip.

This is the main shopping street in Hunchun city. On the signboards, you will notice three languages - Chinese, Korean and Russian. There is a big population of Korean ethnic group here, the city also frequently and constantly gets Russian visitors across the nearby border.

Toki

Bought the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 recently. This is the first real shot using that lens. I'm lovin' it!
